FTP with Firefox (Linux, Unix, Mac OS, Windows)

The Firefox web browser is available for Windows, Mac OS and Linux/Unix operating systems and has an FTP Plugin
available called FireFTP.

Firefox can be downloaded for free at GetFirefox.com

FireFTP can be downloaded for free at fireftp.mozdev.org

Please note that Web Hosting Plus does not support either of the above applications, but details are provided here due to
its popularity and availability on all platforms.

To use FireFTP (once installed):

Step 1: In Firefox, select Tools then FireFTP. FireFTP will open in a new tab in Firefox.

Step 2: Click on the drop-down menu inside FireFTP where it says 'Create an account'. An Account Manager
window will appear.

Step 3: Enter an Account Name (i.e. FTP for mydomain), Host (ftp.yourdomain.com or the FTP IP address -
213.171.193.5), Login (yourdomain.com), Password (your FTP password).

Step 4: Click on the OK button to save the settings.

Step 5: Next to the drop-down menu showing your FTP account, click 'Connect'. Once connected, a list of the
folders in your web space will appear. Double-click the htdocs folder; this is where your public website files are stored.

Step 6: Upload your website's home page by selecting the file on the left side and then click on the Upload
arrow button to copy the file to your web space. If you upload a file called index.html directly to htdocs, it will
automatically become your website's home page.

Where to upload your files and what to call them

Windows servers: For standard html files, your home page should be called index.html or default.html.

Linux servers: For standard html files, your home page should be called index.html.

Creating new folders: Any new folders you create within htdocs can be accessed as part of your website
address.

Example: If you create a folder called photos in htdocs, you would access it with www.yourdomain.co.uk/photos
in your browser's address bar.
